4A East Region Championship Preview
4A East – South Central (28-1) vs Millbrook, (27-1)6:00 @ ECU
Day’Ron Sharpe showed why he’s so highly regarded with a 32-point performance in South Central High School’s 79-45 win over Wakefield High School of Raleigh this past Tuesday in the 4A East Region Semi Finals.
Included among Day’Ron’s baskets were a few monster slams. South Central made their presence known early, taking a 35-14 lead into the half and they didn’t let up in the second half, as they coasted to the win.
Day’Ron had help in the scoring department from 6-6 175, senior small forward Shy’Quan Jones and from senior guard Jahzeer Balker, who scored 15 and 14 points respectively.
Jones is an excellent defender, while Baker, a 5-10 lefty shares the point guard duties with senior Shykeim Phillips, is also a lights out shooter.
Phillips, Coach Chris Cherry’s floor leader, only scored seven points Tuesday night, but the young man will be a key in the Region Championship, because he is at his best in big games.
South Central made it to the Region semifinals two years ago and last year made it to the Region championship game, so they on a mission to not only go one step further, they hope to win the 4A championship next week.
Sharpe and his 28-1 Falcon teammates will face Millbrook High School of Raleigh, which sports a 27-1 win-loss record.
Millbrook High School reached the 4A East Region Championship with an 80-71, win over a determined Seventy First High School Falcon team, from Fayetteville.

Seventy-First was led by senior forwards Brion McLaurin and Xzavier Howard, who scored 24 and 18 points respectively.
The Falcons led 37-25 midway the second quarter, but Millbrook pulled to within 41-36 at the half.
Seventy-First was a determined opponent and a capable one at that. The Falcons used a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter to take a 59-50 lead.Millbrook stormed back, however, with a 19-0 run to take a 69-59 lead, with a little over a minute and a half left in the game.
